Status update:

Week 13 is the NFL’s “My Cause, My Cleats” week in which players get to wear customized cleats for one game and promote charitable efforts that are near and dear to them.

“One of the great NFL traditions is how our players passionately support important causes in their communities and around the globe every year,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said in 2016. “They are incredibly creative by nature so we are not surprised how they are seizing the opportunity this week with inspiring expressions of their charitable commitments on their cleats, online and through social media.”

Keep an eye for more great tributes like Prescott’s going into Sunday.

A direct snap to special teams ace Nate Ebner led to a 14-yard gain that kept the Patriots’ offense on the field.

Unfortunately for the Patriots, the play resulted in a knee injury for Ebner that was serious enough to immediately rule him out for the remainder of the game.

But the play eventually led to a 2-yard touchdown run for Rex Burkhead that gave New England an early 7-0 lead. The clever fake that the Dolphins couldn’t stop might not have even been Bill Belichick’s call, but Ebner’s at the line of scrimmage.

Ebner made a call before the snap. Looks like he ordered the fake on the field because, I’d guess, the Patriots saw a vulnerability in film study that they could expose with the right look.dodgers_019

Fantasy intel for all 32 NFL teams ahead of Week 12

Below are notes covering each of the NFL’s 32 teams from a fantasy perspective. Use these tidbits to make the best waiver-wire, trade and lineup decisions for Week 12. Be sure to check back each week of the season for a new version of the Fantasy 32.

Glenn was the seventh overall pick in the 1996 draft by the Patriots after a stellar, yet improbable, career at Ohio State.

Glenn walked on to the team in 1993 and eventually became the nation’s best receiver in 1995 when he won the Fred Biletnikoff Award and was named a consensus first-team All-American.

Regardless of what may have been reported, the Committee is working within the financial parameters outlined to the ownership at the May meeting. The negotiations are progressing and we will keep ownership apprised of the negotiations as they move forward. We do not intend to publicly comment on our discussions.”

“I’m disappointed that things didn’t work out because this is a special organization and a great place to be,” McCoy said. “I want to thank Vance for the opportunity he gave me and the entire organization from Mr. B (majority owner Pat Bowlen) all the way on down.

Here’s what happened: the ball was snapped too high, allowing the defensive line to come crashing in, Cousins caught it, but not wanting to take the hit, he lateraled the ball to his running back who got hit by three players. Video of the play went viral as people kept making fun of Cousins for sacrificing Kelley.

Speaking Monday on a local radio show with Grant Paulsen and Danny Rouhier, Cousins explained what went into that play. According to the quarterback, Kelley is the one who said he’d be willing to take the hit.nike_bears-402

Saints extend win streak to 8, roar back, 34-31 in OT

The New Orleans Saints extended their winning streak to eight games with an unlikely comeback, erasing a 15-point deficit inside the final six minutes or regulation and kicking a short field goal in overtime to defeat the Washington Redskins 34-31 on Sunday.

The line went quiet. Seconds passed. Goodell’s decision was an unconscionable violation of trust, Jones later told associates, because he believed that the commissioner had assured him this past spring that there would be no suspension. Jones saw in Elliott a genuine opportunity, a player so good that he had made Jones believe that this year he just might win a Super Bowl for the first time since 1996. His anger was palpable. Finally, according to sources with direct knowledge of the call, Jones broke the silence. He aimed his words not only at Goodell’s decision but also at his role as judge, jury and executioner in the case.

“I keep saying sooner rather than later,” Popovich said jokingly. “It’s kind of like being a politician. It’s all baloney, doesn’t mean anything.”

With Leonard out, fourth-year veteran Kyle Anderson has moved into the starting lineup and is taking advantage of the extra minutes, scoring in double figures on eight occasions in addition to notching three double-doubles.

“We’re not surprised at all,” Popovich said of Anderson’s performance in Leonard’s absence. “He’s just had a hard time getting minutes with Kawhi at that spot. He’s always been a good basketball player. I just haven’t given him the minutes that he’s gotten this year. When Kawhi does come back, I’ve got some figuring out to do, because he should still be on the court somehow or other. He’s really taken advantage of the time, for sure.”

“That’s one of my close friends and teammate, and I got him hit,” Njoku said. “I don’t feel good about it.”

Q: You were able to pop one long one against the Panthers, what’d you see and what was different on that run compared to how stout the Panthers defense was otherwise?

Drake: “They’re a pretty good defense. You’ve got to give credit to them. That’s how the game’s supposed to go. You get stronger and score points in the second half to take a little bit of the pressure off the scoreboard. They did a great job up front of opening that hole. I didn’t get touched until I got to the end zone.

Celtics: Aron Baynes started for Morris, who wanted to test his problematic knee. Morris played 21 minutes off the bench. … Boston turned Miami’s first eight turnovers into exactly zero points. The Celtics wound up getting nine points off 16 Miami giveaways. … Shane Larkin was shaken up briefly after taking a hard foul near the rim by Miami’s Kelly Olynyk early in the fourth.

Kate, who no longer drives for Uber, said she doesn’t want money but wanted to tell the truth “about a powerful man who felt entitled to my body when all I wanted to do was my job.”

Winston is currently dealing with a shoulder injury that sidelined him in Week 10 and will likely force him to miss his second straight game Sunday against the Dolphins.

The recovery process is expected to take nine months, leaving Beverley with the expectation of a full recovery to return next season.

The loss of Beverley leaves the Clippers (6-11), who ended a nine-game losing streak Wednesday, without their opening-night starting backcourt for an extended period. Guard Milos Teodosic, a 30-year-old European rookie, has missed most of the regular season with left plantar fasciitis. He isn’t expected back soon.bears-036

Adrian Peterson, Larry Fitzgerald keep moving up NFL’s all-time lists

Adrian Peterson and Larry Fitzgerald keep adding to their respective Hall of Fame careers.

Peterson needed just 17 yards to become the 16th NFL player with 12,000 rushing yards. He got 159 on a career-high 37 carries in Sunday’s 20-10 win over the 49ers to pass Hall of Famers Thurman Thomas and Franco Harris to move into 14th place on the NFL’s all-time rushing list.

The Cardinals running back has 99 career rushing touchdowns and will move into seventh place all time with one more. Peterson, who has 29 receiving touchdowns, will break a tie with Hall of Famer Barry Sanders at 99 rushing TDs and pull even with Shaun Alexander and Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk, who both retired with 100 rushing scores.

He signed with the Saints in April, but was traded to the Cardinals on Oct. 10 and ran for 134 yards in his Cardinals debut five days later against the Buccaneers.

The Giants dropped to 1-8 Sunday afternoon after a 31-21 loss to the previously winless 49ers, and many fans are calling for a coaching change. Mara and Steve Tisch, the Giants’ chairman and executive vice president, issued a joint statement Monday afternoon saying the team will evaluate the team’s performance at the end of the year

“Ben McAdoo is our head coach and has our support,” the statement read (via ESPN). “We are in the midst of an extremely disappointing season. Our performance this year, particularly the past two weeks, is inexcusable and frustrating. While we appreciate that our fans are unhappy with what has occurred, nobody is more upset than we are.

“Our plan is to do what we have always done, which is to not offer a running commentary on the season. It is our responsibility to determine the reasons for our poor performance and at the end of the year, we will evaluate the 2017 season in its entirety and make a determination on how we move forward.”
